Transpacific Cleanaway’s secondary school program helps students learn about the importance of being an active participant in recovering, recycling and reusing precious resources.
Understanding how materials are made and the process of resource recovery and recycling helps raise environmental awareness and reduce the impact we have on the planet’s finite resources.
Students learn how placing non-recyclable items in recycling bins causes contamination and can result in good recyclables ending up in landfill instead of being recycled. Contamination in recycling is one of the biggest challenges Transpacific Cleanaway faces in effectively and efficiently sorting recyclables.
By correctly recycling items, the amount of waste being sent to landfill can be reduced, and in turn this benefits the environment by:
- Saving large volumes of water and raw materials
- Reducing the cost of new products
- Preserving resources
- Lowering your overall carbon footprint
Being equipped with the knowledge and understanding of good waste management practices helps ensure we can create positive environmental change.
Please check with your council to find out the items that you can recycle in your local area.
